  • Charles traveled to the beautiful island, Barbados, in December 2005 to photograph its pristine white sand beaches and turquoise waters. He will also visit an outdoor Orchid Center and photograph rare tropical flowers found on this paradise island.   • Charles traveled to the Texas Hill Country near Austin in early April to photograph Texas bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush galore. He was joined by professional nature photographers Nancy Rotenberg and Jeremy Woodhouse who taught Charles the art of digital print-making... from capture to print.
  • Charles traveled to St. John, New Brunswick Canada in May to attend a "Photography and Visual Design" workshop with internationally renown nature photographer, Freeman Patterson.

    The workshop included an exciting opportunity to shoot on location at Freeman's home, at nearby Shampers Bluff. Abundant spring wildflowers and other newly discovered subject matter treated Charles' lens!

    The author of five best-selling instructional books on photography, and seven other books, Freeman believes a sound knowledge of visual design is fundamental to clear visual expression and focuses on this in his illustrated lectures.
  • Charles' image, "Serendipity," won second place in the Southeastern Council of Camera Clubs Interclub Color Slide Competition, held November 1, 2003. Quite an honor, considering there were 34 entries from members of camera clubs in 7 southeastern states.   • In early November 2003, Charles spent 10 days in beautiful Barbados, West Indies, photographing seascapes, rare tropical flowers, and street scenes. See gallery to view a selection of these newest images.
  • Charles' solo exhibition, "Abstractions of Nature" (Oct. 1-31, 2003) received favorable reviews from patients, staff, and the general public at Northside Hospital in Atlanta. This exhibit, which was held in conjunction with "Atlanta Celebrates Photography" month, featured 10 limited-edition prints that hung in a high-traffic hallway on the main floor of the Main Hospital building.

    In conjunction with the exhibit, Northside Hospital played Charles' award-winning videotape, The Healing Power of Nature, in the Hospital's Main Lobby continuously during the entire month of October and displayed a lightbox (backlit photograph by Charles), showing a tranquil scene from Vogel State Park in north Georgia. Charles also gave an informative lecture/slide show presentation on The Healing Power of Nature at Northside Hospital October 13th. About 30 hospital employees and members of the community attended and were treated to Charles' stunning visual imagery.

  • Charles' photograph, "Morning Splendor," won an Honorable Mention in the 7th annual Roswell Photographic Society Open Juried Competition, Exhibition & Sale, held at the Roswell Visual Art Center & Gallery in October 2003. Nearly 100 photographs were on display, including two of Charles' most recent images.

  • Charles held his first solo exhibition during June and July 2003 at Sandy Springs Regional Library in Atlanta. The exhibit (left), entitled "Abstractions of Nature," featured 10 limited-edition fine art prints hand-signed by the artist.

  • Charles participated by invitation in the Atlanta Artists' Center New Members Show, featuring three of his photographs, July 20 - August 31, 2003.
  • The Louisville (KY) Courier-Journal newspaper quotes Charles in a recent article on the health benefits of connecting with nature. The article also mentions his award-winning video, The Healing Power of Nature, and how you can order this tape.
  • The July 16, 2003 Dunwoody Crier (GA) newspaper ran a feature article about Charles' first solo exhibit at Sandy Springs Regional Library, entitled "Abstractions of Nature."

  • Charles' image, "Athabasca Splendor," won Second Place in the slides category at the Southeastern Photographic Society's January 2003 Competition.
  • Charles' image, "Bellagio Delight," won an Honorable Mention at the Southeastern Council of Camera Clubs 2002 Salon Competition in Asheville, NC.

  • For six weeks in August and September of 2002, Charles traveled solo by Jeep and shot more than 300 rolls of film in five national parks (left): Glacier NP (Montana), Banff NP (Canada), Jasper NP (Canada), Yellowstone NP, and Grand Teton National Park. Many of these images appear in Charles' online gallery.
  • The August 1, 1996 issue of The Chicago Tribune featured one of Charles' flower images, accompanied by a full-length feature article about Charles' research on nature's healing powers.
